Format<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Is the New System?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u201cSpecific Residence Card\u201d and \u201cSpecific Special Permanent Resident Certificate\u201d systems will be introduced on June 14, 2026.<br>This system combines the functions of a My Number Card with those of a class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Are Eligible?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eligible individuals are foreign residents who are listed in the Basic Resident Register as:<br>Mid- to long-term residents, or Special permanent residents<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is obtaining the new card mandatory?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can still use your Residence Card and My Number Card as two separate cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The design of the Residence Card and the Special Permanent Resident Certificate will also change.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the new system starts, the Residence Card and the Special Permanent Resident Certificate will also change to a new design. If you do not want the new combined card, the card you receive next time will still be the new design.<br>Your current card is still valid, so you do not need to change it right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Please review the system changes if you plan to complete any of the following procedures:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Application for Extension of Period of Stay<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Application for Change of Status of Residence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Application for Permanent Residence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notification of Change of Address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extension of Validity Period of the Residence Card<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Application for Reissuance of the Residence Card<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"check-point\">\n<span>\nThe Immigration Services Agency website provides information on the new system, including an overview, eligible procedures, required documents, Q&#038;A, and downloadable leaflets. Easy Japanese versions of the leaflets are also available.<br>\nPlease note that the details of the system may change in the future.
