18-1 Social workers & childcare workers

Social workers and childcare workers provide you consulting services for your anxieties in daily life, such as: livelihood, childcare, children's education, elderly people's difficulties, diseases and nursing care, physical disability, and single-parent household. They will give you advice and introduce appropriate aid systems and organizations in charge, if necessary.

18-2 Nursing-care insurance and welfare for the elderly

The nursing care insurance system is aimed to support nursing care for the elderly by society as whole mutually. People who are aged above 40 pay insurance premium to join the system. When a member is designated as a person who needs nursing care, she/he can utilize care service at a minimum charge.
The city provides elderly people with various welfare services so that they are relieved from isolation and live autonomous lives.

18-3 Medical system for Kouki koreisha (the elderly from 75 years up)

The new medical insurance system in which all the elderly from 75 years up (or above 65 if he/she has a certain disability) are enrolled is operated by the municipalities union of Saitama-ken Kouki koureisha.

All enrollees of the system are required to pay the premiums. Co-payment at the medical institution is 10% of charged medical expenses . You can pay the premium by deducting from your pension, or pay with a statement of payment at the window of city hall, or use an account transfer.

(1) Enrollment qualification of medical system for Kouki koreish

  • Those who are listed on the Basic Resident registration and granted permission to stay more than 3 months.
  • Those who are listed on the Basic Resident registration and granted permission to stay less than 3 months, and are permitted to stay for more than three months by objective materials referred to table 1 below.

(2) An exception of application to foreign nationals for medical system of Kouki koreisha

  • Those whose status of residence are “designated activities” and engage in ‘activity to have medical care’, ‘care for daily activities of person to have medical care’ and ‘sightseeing, recreation or other similar activities’.
  • Those who are getting public assistance (except those who are stopped public assistance).

18-4 Welfare for people with disabilities

People with physical, intellectual, and mental disabilities can receive various services depending on the degree of disability.

In order to receive services, the physically handicapped person should have “Handbook for Physically Disabled”, and intellectually handicapped person should have “Health Care Handbook for Mentally Handicapped” or “Independence Support Medical Recipient Identification Card (Mental Visit)”. Please apply and receive grants of handbooks.
